It was a very close, and enjoyable, match. It was down to a single banner in the end (6-3 and 6-2).

Those poor Goblins in scenario 4 (Deeper in the Castile) really took a battering both times, and seemed to be the realy weak spot.

But Amnese pulled through by meticulous use of 'running away' to protect his banners, and managed to get the victory.

Well done, mate!

Congrats to eldurand on his victory. he beat me in resounding fashion in Scenario 4, Deeper in Castille. What can I say about the match. I got whipped. My mounted charges were terrible, scoring only 1 hit with 20 dice rolled in back to back uses of the normally formitable card. My third use of mounted charge in the same game (pennant side) scored me two hits. so for a total of 27 dice rolled i was able to pull off 3 hits, with no units killed. gluk: but such is life in the world of battlelore, you win some and lose some. yesterday was just a continuation of the Patriots robbery. Again congratulation to eldurand. you deserve it "dial-up commando". Good luck in the tourney.

As a postscrïpt to my match against Bellman I must add that Bellman totally smashed me in both matches, I resorted to 'Ordered Withdrawals' for several turns in a row to get my 1 strength Dwarven units out of the firing line. Towards the end of the second game I was using 'Scouts' to withdraw my Dwarves two hexes back and to hope for a card that would allow me to withdraw them even further. By the end of our second game (with the scores at 4-2 (running total 7-8), after it was 3-6 in the first game), I needed two units to win, and Bellman needed just one to guarantee a draw (whereby he would win by casualty count 50-38).
On Bellman's second last turn he moved a blue Goblin unit just 1 hex away from two of my Dwarven units, both on strength 1. If this Goblin unit could attack my dwarves it would have been all over for me...
On my second last turn I played 'Green Banners' to move and fire with my SINGLE Green Banner unit remaining, an archer. My entire turn (which I thought would be my last) consisted of moving this archer within range of Bellman's blue banner Goblin's threatening my shaken Dwarves, then firing away with just the one die. Luck was finally with me as the one die showed up a FLAG. Bellman had to retreat his blue banner and my dwarves could relax...for now...The luck continued for me as I drew Battlelore as my last command card, played it on my next turn, and rolled 1 Green, 2 Blue, 1 Red, and 2 lore. Enough to mass random forces from around the board, target his weakest units, and knock off the two necessary units in one turn. Right up until my last two turns this had been Bellman's match, he had smashed my centre, my Dwarves were scattered, and he was hammering down hard with his left flank and his two remaining Goblins. My archers received the Victoria Cross for their work in saving my dwarves and my game, and my commanders receive the Congressional Medal of Honour for drawing Battlelore as my final card. Full credit to Bellman on a superbly played game, and on being a great opponent.

Congrats to all.  Nice to watch some of the replays... almost feels like a coach watching a game film before the next matchup.

Jon and I will most likely be having our match on Thursday and I hope to get the results posted the same evening.

Interesting that the first 3 matches did not include any Lore scenarios - is this mandatory/preferred?  Or is it up to the combatants?

it's up to the opponents to pick which scenario they prefer whether it is lore or not. I think most of us wanted to begin the tournament playing scenarios we have the most experience at, and i guess for most of us it's medieval adventures. Good luck thursday.

Thanks for posting the logfiles. These matches are so fun to watch! I cringe at some of the missed rules mistakes in some of the other matches, though.

First off, thanks BnB for a great set of matches. It really did seem the dice rolling was against you - though it came in waves of good and bad for both of us. It was very enjoyable!

And Jspill - pls go ahead and post what missed rules you notice in the logfiles. I for one would appreciate being corrected/reminded. I am always looking to learn the game rules and mechanics better  Thanks!

eldurand - Mostly it's the little things everyone misses in the heat of battle, such as Green Infantry moving 3 hexes without a special command card, or Blue Infantry battling out of wooded hexes with 3 dice (this occurred in your first match, in the center).

If you would like a more specific example, there's one mistake that sticks out in my mind (because it was the in last logfile I watched). In the second DamonWilder/Stradk match, one of DamonWilder's archers shot between a wooded hex and a shaded half-hex (no LOS, rules p.20) to destroy Stradk's last Red Cavalry. Again, anyone could overlook this mistake in a match, I'm not trying to be critical.  ;)

Just makin a comment. but i've noticed how it seems to be a bit easier to forget a rule while playing on vassel (I've done it a few times myself), then when playing the game with another person.  Anyways I'm glad everyone is enjoying the game, its really fun to play with you people when I get the chance

jspill: I do not take it to be critical, I was wondering if there was anything you noticed being repeated. Small mistakes in the heat of battle will happen.

And ravendreams, I agree. I know during my battles with BnB I was constantly double and triple checking rules that I knew in order to be sure I did not get them wrong.

Thanks, BnB.  I had a great time playing with Stormshine, and am definitely looking forward to round 2.  Like I'm sure with all the games, our matches were both close - fortunately the dice rolls seemed to be consistantly average for me.  The second game had me sweating when Stormshine opened up with the deadly "Darken the Skies" + "Magic Missiles" combo.  Tore up 2 complete units and halved 2 others, IIRC.  Had me playing desperate the rest of the game

I just watched jwquinn vs NelsonM. Good game, guys! That first match was a close one. Some of those rolls were just so wicked.

I am looking forward to seeing the results of the next round as well.  Thank you once more to BnB for setting this up, as well as Toddrew for giving me an education.

Congrats to ColtsFan76 for his good win. He beat me soundly in Game 1, which put me behind the 8-ball for Game 2. I ended up winning Game 2 but would've lost in another turn.

Thanks to BnB for running this.

Wow! These matches have some pretty exciting moments in them!

In game 2 of Athmok vs. Bilben, Athmok played Fearless (ignore all flags) on a 2-strength, bolded blue unit which had no means of retreat just before Bilben rolled 3 flags against it. Amazing show!
